Briefs encounter
I think if there’s one clip of a British horror film which sums up why I love these things so much it’s this one. No blood, no horror… just two people (Robin Askwith and Vanessa Shaw) on a train, helping along the plot with a lot of exposition. Askwith at his cheeky best, a bizarre and unnecessary use of the “r” word, a nonsensical explanation of why her Aunt was called “Harris” (which is a pretty common name)… it’s got it all. And the end of the scene is just brilliant.
This video clip is one of a dozen or so I put on YouTube back in the day, when you could only share 10 minutes or so of footage. Of course, these days you can track down all kinds of entire films on there, probably even the whole of Horror Hospital if you look hard enough.
I won’t be posting any new video clips on there, other people are busy doing that… but the ones I posted were all choice short pieces of British horror films brilliance, so it would be rude not to re-share them occasionally through this blog. I hope you agree!
(Why “Briefs encounter”? It’s perennial y-fronts flasher Robin Askwith meeting a lady on a train, that’s why!) :)
