New review: The Body Beneath
What to say about this one? Well, if I describe it as a low-budget gothic vampire tale, set in contemporary London, which makes absolutely no sense and ends in an undead parish council meeting that makes Handforth’s look professionally filmed by comparison (if you’re not acquainted with this reference Google it, you won’t be disappointed), I’d say that about sums it up.
“Sounds good, Chris” you’re probably saying to your screen. “I might give it a go, after all, it sounds a bit like Dracula AD1972, and I’ve always thought that what would improve that film is a minuted meeting of some kind.”
Well, I’d add that The Body Beneath is absolutely terrible, and although my review is the usual witty and bordering-on-genius fare you’ve come to expect and well worth a look, the film genuinely isn’t (worth a look).
“Ah,” you’re probably now saying. “but as I initially said, it sounds a bit like Dracula AD1972, and I, like most right-thinking people, liked that film, and your review of that is not favourable. So I’m going to ignore your warning and seek it out.”
Well, that’s your funeral. But I’d advise against it.
And I think it may be time for me to revisit said Hammer affair, and see if, after probably 20 years, I may now actually “dig the music, kids”. You never know.
