New review: The Two Faces Of Doctor Jekyll

Another day, another review, another proper Hammer classic. This straight-faced (and very adult) take on the hoary old tale is actually very good.

But as can be the case with some source material, it suffers from being linked to a story we all think we know. The same doesn’t seem to be true of Dracula or Frankenstein, but there are some tales that just induce bored responses from the ticket-buying public. I’d suggest Doctor Jekyll And Mister Hyde tends to fall into this category. As can films about Mummies, anything connected to The Phantom Of The Opera, The Hound Of The Baskervilles and a few Agatha Christies.

Nothing wrong at all with the original stories, and often the re-tellings are very good… but it’s often a chore to sit down and watch them.

That said, track down The Two Faces Of Doctor Jekyll. It really is rather good…
