New review: The Tell-Tale Heart
For your dedicated reviewer (me, that is) over the past six months or so, the 1960s has proved to be a rich hunting-ground for little-known British horrors. Perhaps surprisingly, there’s a real treasure-trove of oddities to be discovered if you take a peep just behind all the showboating Hammers, Amicuses and Tigons that we’re so aware of.
Sadly this version of The Tell-Tale Heart is a bit of an also-ran. It is hampered by its over-complex narrative structure, and as an Edgar Allan Poe tale would have benefited greatly from the inclusion of a certain Vincent Price.
But… the SFX are good, Adrienne Corri looks sensational, and it has its gory moments (albeit grainy monochrome ones). So it’s worth a go.
