New review: They Came From Beyond Space

Disclaimer: Film may not be as exciting as poster. Or, in fact, contain any women in purple catsuits.

They came from beyond the budget!

SEE! Ideas that far outstrip the money available!

FEEL! A slight sense of disappointment as much of the moving between scenes is shown through a ping-pong ball in a tube!

GASP! As a lot of stuff has to be talked about rather than shown!

PONDER! On the aliens’ motives, even after they’ve all been explained – in great detail – by Michael Gough!

WONDER! Whether all this is an unused old Doctor Who script, and if that was the case…

DON’T wonder! Why it didn’t get made by the BBC!

Who doesn’t love a cosy catastrophe alien invasion film? Well, you might not love them quite so much after sitting through this utter plank of a film, with its “Are they bad? Are they good?” Flip-flopping. Okay, so it’s quite quaint just how British our invaders appear to be (they’re certainly the politest alien invaders I’ve yet come across), and we do get an unexpected cameo by a 1970s TV star. But is that enough?

You can read the review here…

PS. I’ve just found out that the budget for this thing was SO tiny you can spot reused sets and props from other assorted films throughout, including the much-more-famous Daleks Invasion Earth 2150AD. Which explains a lot, because THAT one didn’t exactly look like Star Wars.
