New review: X The Unknown

It wasn’t until about halfway through this film it clicked with me that its title is a quite clever mathematical joke. But that aside, Hammer’s post-Quatermass-but-remarkably-similar offering is solid. Unlike its main protagonist (how do you kill mud?).

These black and white sci-fi horrors could be surprisingly brutal – in this one, the likeable comedy stylings of Privates Haggis and Spider get stopped mid-film by a serious case of death, which is a bit of a shock.

So join us for as much face-melting, soldier-burning and infanticide as you can shake a Geiger counter at, as we enjoy the muddy hell of X. What is it? Unknown, that’s what. Time to get your simultaneous equations out, missus.
